BEGINNER GUIDE TO HD SECURITY CAMERA SYSTEMS: OVERVIEW

What is a HD Security Camera System?

We all watch TV - think of the difference in quality between regular channels and high definition channels. ReedHD™ security cameras can help solve more crimes using less cameras due to increased image quality. A standard video surveillance camera records in 0.3 megapixel (VGA 640x480 pixels). ReedHD™ security cameras record in resolutions up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) and gives you a better opportunity to record and recognize Faces, License Plates and Objects. A ReedHD™ 4K security camera gives you the same resolution as over 26 standard definition security cameras.

HD Security Camera systems consist of:

  1. Cameras and Lenses
  2. Power
  3. Cable and Conduit
  4. Router/Modem and Internet
  5. LAN and Switches
  6. Storage
  7. Display Monitor
  8. Apps for connecting remotely
  9. Warning Signage
  10. Professional Installation

OVERVIEW:

I.P. cameras capture images and convert them to digital video streams. The digital video streams are broadcast over a local area network (LAN) using Ethernet (CAT5e or CAT6) cable. Power is supplied to I.P. security cameras through the ethernet cable via Power-Over-Ethernet (POE) adapters built into the security cameras and at a POE enabled switch. The ethernet cable for each security camera is plugged into the switch which feeds into the network router/hub.

A Network Video Recorder (NVR) captures each security camera's signal, compresses, and records it. Software built into the NVR provides features such as motion recording, intelligent search, zoom and video analytics (People Detection, Cross Line Detection, Object Removed). The NVR combines the video streams from the security cameras and handles the broadcast over the LAN and internet for local and remote viewing via apps for PC, MAC, tablets and smartphones.

Note: The maximum distance between network devices is 330 feet.

LEADING CONSTRUCTION DISTRIBUTOR PARTNERS WITH REED SECURITY

Security Building Supplies are veterans in the construction industry since 1968 and supplies lumber and building materials to home builders, renovators, and general contractors.

We supplied and installed a layered security solution which included:

When the project was over we interviewed Jay Fafard, VP of Business Development, and these were his comments:

1. Reed Security proved to have the most detailed quote and provided the best pricing. Both the Sales Representative and the Owner drove to our facility to walk through exactly what we needed and give us advice on where they felt our resources were best spent. We didn’t know exactly what we wanted but we were presented with our choices and Reed Security made it easy to find the best solution for our facilities.

2. As well, the professionalism and expertise made Reed Security come across as a major player in their field. Our CEO was amazed to find out they were a locally grown business.

3. I would recommend Reed Security any day of the week for both residential and commercial solutions. From first contact with Reed Security right through until the completion of the project the staff was committed, a pleasure to work with, and most importantly knew exactly what they were doing. Reed Security made the process feel easy and straight forward when I am sure that isn’t close to the reality.

SASKATOON POLICE ADVISE INSTALLING ALARM AND CAMERA SYSTEMS

Global News, November 29, 2016, David Giles

Saskatoon police advise people to take measures following rash of break and enters

Saskatoon police are asking people to ensure valuables are locked up and property is secure following a number of break and enters on the city’s east side.

Police said there were 12 break-ins at businesses, homes and garages over the weekend.

Overall, police said break and enters city-wide are up slightly, with 1,952 reported since the beginning of the year compared to 1,930 over the same period in 2015.

Police said there are steps people can take to help prevent break-ins.

One of those measures is to install an alarm system and surveillance cameras.

Officials said valuables should be locked away, adequate lighting is in place, doors and windows are locked, and keys and remote garage door openers removed from vehicles.

Police also said serial numbers of valuables should be recorded to help with recovery in the event they are stolen.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to Saskatoon police.

CAMERAS NOT GUNS

Did you ever have a stranger drive into your yard and ask for directions? Keep on reading...

There's been a lot of attention about farmers, protection and guns in the media recently. At Reed Security we've seen an increase of 25% about farm security, cabin security and acreage security over the past two years.

So, what are people concerned about? We interviewed Dave and Vicki Dutton from Dutton Farms in Paynton, SK about their concerns and here's what we found:

WHAT ARE FARMERS CONCERNED ABOUT?

"Theft is our biggest concern. We can't always be at the farm to keep an eye on things". Here were their concerns:

  • home break-in
  • shop break-in
  • vehicle theft
  • fuel theft
  • theft of keys
  • theft of wallets, cash, credit cards, ID
  • theft of guns
  • theft of tools
  • theft of chemicals
  • confrontation

DIRECTIONS PLEASE

"We live on a busy highway and a number of people come into our yard. When a lost stranger drives into your yard and asks for directions - are they really lost? Or could it be that they're scoping your place out?"

Just about everybody has maps on their smartphones. You should pay particular attention to the make and model of the vehicle and even the license plate if you can. Also make notes about the person's description and age. The Police will need this information in the event of a reported theft.

5 SOLUTIONS TO INCREASE FARM PROTECTION NOW

Better security is a better solution.  Reed Security recommends installing several layers of security instead of relying on only one.

  1. Install an Alarm System with 24/7 Monitoring in your Home and Shop
    -coverage on doors and windows
-smart motion sensor coverage in common spaces and hallways
-consider fire, low temp. and flood protection
-consider installing ALARM.COM smart security automation
-we notify you, the neighbors and the Police
-you may qualify for an Insurance Discount of up to 25%
-lock your doors when you leave the yard

  2. Install ReedHD Cameras
-up to 26x more detail than standard definition
-we know which cameras to install where
-ability to record Faces and License plates*
    -see in the dark
-records for 10 to 30 days before recycling data
-Smart Phone apps to remotely see cameras from Anywhere

  3. Install ReedHD Smart Cameras
-all the features of ReedHD Cameras
    -People and Vehicle Detection analytics
-ignores all other objects such as birds or animals
-People and Vehicle Detection alerts are sent to your smartphone app

  4. Get Your Cameras remotely Monitored with UCIT Video Monitoring
-trained operators receive alerts from ReedHD Smart Cameras
-operators perform a remote look in video tour
-we notify you, the neighbors and the Police
    -choose a schedule

  5. Advertise Your Active Security Measures
    -install warning signage and decals
-show your friends, family and neighbors your security measures including your smartphone apps
-thieves think twice before targeting farms with active security measures
