New & Noteworthy

YWCA SASKATOON NAMED FIRST COMMUNITY CAMERAS RECIPIENT

At Reed Security, one of our core values is Care. We talk a lot about protecting the communities we serve, but recently, we decided to put our tools where our mouth is.

We are incredibly proud to announce the successful installation of our inaugural Community Cameras project, and the very first recipient is the truly deserving YWCA Saskatoon.

They are currently putting the finishing touches on a brand-new, 90-space childcare center located at 140 Wall Street. This facility is a much-needed extension of the amazing work they already do at their 25th Street location, and we wanted to ensure their new space was as safe and secure as possible.

Trading Our Desks for Toolbelts

To make this massive project happen, we did something unprecedented: we completely shut down the Reed Security office for the day.

We formed cross-departmental installation teams to get the work done together.

The Experts: Our experienced technicians stepped up as project team leads, guiding the process from start to finish.

The Rookies: Members of our sales, admin, and support teams traded their everyday tasks for non-traditional roles, pulling wire, mounting cameras, and learning the ropes.

It was a phenomenal day of hands-on learning, cross-training, and team building. Getting out from behind our screens to physically build a safer environment was the ultimate expression of how much we care about our community.

Peace of Mind for Local Families

For the YWCA, safety isn't just a feature; it's a necessity.

Carla Huntington, the VP of Development & Engagement at the YWCA, shared that security is top of mind for their organization. The families dropping off their children at the new 140 Wall Street location need to know their kids are in a safe, monitored environment. Providing that ultimate peace of mind is exactly what the Community Cameras project is designed to do.

Carla also mentioned how easy and pleasant the grant process was, noting that without community support and great security, they wouldn't be able to do the vital work they do.

Does Your Non-Profit Need Smarter Security?

We couldn’t be happier with how our first Community Cameras installation turned out, and we are already looking forward to the next one.

If you are part of a local non-profit organization that could benefit from a state-of-the-art security system, we want to hear from you!

WHY REMAI PROPERTY GROUP CHOSE ACTVGRD™

Proactive. Intelligent. Uncompromising.

The Future of Site Security is Here.

When developing premium real estate, the standard for security shouldn’t just be a physical presence. It should be intelligent, seamlessly integrated, and uncompromisingly reliable. Protecting valuable assets, equipment, and timelines shouldn't feel like a cost center - it should feel like an operational advantage.

For Remai Property Group, the status quo of reactive security simply wasn't enough. They needed a solution as forward-thinking as their developments.

Enter ACTVGRD.

The Challenge: Beyond the Perimeter

Construction sites are inherently vulnerable. At their newest development at 151 Pawlychenko Lane in Saskatoon, SK, Remai Property Group faced the same critical challenges every major developer faces.

Theft: High-value tools and essential materials are prime targets.

Vandalism: Senseless damage that causes costly delays and compromises quality.

Liability: Meeting strict Builders Risk Insurance requirements without inflating the budget.

Traditional security measures - like static cameras that only record the aftermath, or expensive physical guard patrols - leave gaps. Remai Property Group needed a system that didn't just watch, but actively protected.

The Solution: ACTVGRD™ by Reed Security

Deployed by the integration experts at Reed Security, ACTVGRD™ is more than just a camera on a pole. It is a comprehensive, live video monitoring service paired with a state-of-the-art mobile surveillance units.

It represents a paradigm shift in how we secure environments:

Always On: 24/7 continuous live monitoring ensures absolute, unbroken coverage.

Active Deterrence: It doesn't just record what happened; it anticipates and deters threats in real-time, stopping losses before they occur.

Intelligent Economics: ACTVGRD™ fully satisfies Builders Risk Insurance requirements at half the cost of traditional security guards. Better protection. Smarter investment.

The Remai Experience

When technology works this flawlessly, the results speak for themselves. Barry Remai, President of Remai Property Group, shares how ACTVGRD™ has fundamentally transformed their site operations.

"Our biggest risk is thieves who want to steal tools or materials. But even worse than that is the potential for vandalism. This was the first building we decided to go with video surveillance, and we went with Reed Security based on their reputation and the technology they brought... The key is stopping losses before they happen, not just detecting them. I think these live monitoring camera systems are the way of the future."

-Barry Remai, President, Remai Property Group

WHEN WE'RE NOT PROTECTING PEOPLE & PROPERTY, WE'RE CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITY

At Reed Security, our commitment goes far beyond our daily operations. True security is about more than cameras and access control - it’s about uplifting the people around us and fostering a community where everyone can thrive.

That’s why our team recently stepped out of the office and into an icing station to volunteer for the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign.

If you've been to a Tim Hortons this week, you know the drill: buying a freshly baked chocolate chunk Smile Cookie isn't just a sweet treat; it’s a direct investment in the local community. Every year, Tim Hortons franchise owners donate 100% of the proceeds from these cookies to local charities.

This year, the impact hits incredibly close to home for us.

The proceeds from the Saskatoon Smile Cookie campaign are directly supporting two phenomenal local organizations that we are exceptionally proud to call our clients:

Roadways Literacy Academy: An incredible organization dedicated to empowering young minds right here in Saskatoon through specialized dyslexia education. They are changing the trajectory of students' lives by providing the tools and environment they need to succeed.

Hope's Home: A trailblazing organization providing medically inclusive childcare. They ensure that children with complex medical needs, alongside their peers, have a safe, supportive, and joyful place to learn and grow.

Seeing the dedication these organizations have to Saskatoon families makes it an absolute honor for our team to roll up our sleeves, grab some icing bags, and help decorate. We might be security experts by trade, but we poured a lot of heart into getting those smiles just right!

How You Can Help

When businesses and individuals support local causes, the impact multiplies. The Smile Cookie campaign runs until Sunday, May 3rd.

Whether you're grabbing your morning coffee or picking up a box of cookies for your own office, we highly encourage you to add a Smile Cookie to your order. It’s a small purchase that makes a massive difference for the families relying on Roadways Literacy Academy and Hope's Home.

Thank you for helping us support Saskatoon!

HOW TO STOP THEFT AT CONSTRUCTION SITES

Construction sites are easy targets.

They’re full of valuable tools, copper wire, equipment, and materials. Most sites also sit empty overnight and on weekends. Criminals know that. They drive by, watch for a few nights, and when nobody responds, they move in.

We’ve seen it happen many times across Saskatchewan.

The problem isn’t that sites don’t have security. Many have cameras or alarm systems. The problem is that most of those systems are passive. Cameras record what happened. Alarms send notifications after someone has already broken in.

By the time anyone reacts, the theft or damage is already done.

Why Construction Sites Are Targeted

Construction sites attract thieves for a few simple reasons:

⬢ Valuable tools and equipment left on site

⬢ Copper wire, fuel, and building materials that are easy to resell

⬢ Limited lighting or security overnight

⬢ No one present after work hours

Even when cameras are visible, criminals often assume nobody is actually watching.

Unfortunately, they’re usually right.

The Problem With Traditional Security

Most construction sites rely on one of three things:

Security cameras

These help after the fact. They provide evidence but rarely stop the crime.

Alarm systems

Alarms trigger once someone has already entered the site. Many thefts happen in minutes.

Security guards

Guards can work, but they are expensive and difficult to staff consistently. Coverage gaps are common.

For many projects, none of these options provide reliable protection.

A Different Approach to Construction Site Security

ACTVGRD BY REED SECURITY uses AI-powered video monitoring combined with trained remote guards who actively watch construction sites after hours.

Here’s how it works:

⬢ AI software detects suspicious activity and filters out false alarms

⬢ Remote guards immediately review the live video

⬢ If a threat is confirmed, guards issue a live voice warning through speakers on site

⬢ Police are dispatched if necessary

Instead of reviewing footage the next morning, threats are addressed while they’re happening.

In many cases, a simple voice warning is enough to stop criminals before they cause damage or steal anything.

Lower Cost Than Security Guards

General contractors often use overnight security guards to protect sites. The challenge is cost.

A guard working overnight can easily cost $25 to $40 per hour, which adds up to $10,000 to $15,000 a month.

ACTVGRD BY REED SECURITY provides continuous monitoring at a fraction of that cost while covering every night and weekend.

Protect Your Construction Site Before Theft Happens

Theft and vandalism can delay projects, increase insurance claims, and create unnecessary stress for project managers.

The good news is that there are better options than passive cameras or expensive guards.

If you want an honest look at how exposed your construction site may be after hours, we can help.
